Job Description

The Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Authority is seeking a Government Affairs Officer (GAO). The GAO is a newly created strategic leadership position that provides direction for Virginia ABC’s judicial services, hearings and appeals and legislative/policy functions. The position is responsible for a 16-member staff and an annual operating budget of nearly $2 million. Initially, the GAO will report to the current Chief Operating Officer. After the transition to an Authority, the GAO will report to the newly appointed CEO.
The hiring range for this position is $115,000 to $150,000, depending upon the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. Participation in the state benefits program and the Virginia Retirement System is provided. Relocation is negotiable.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in political science, public administration, business administration, or a related field and five years of progressively responsible experience in government relations or regulatory administration.

Preferred Qualifications

Juris Doctor preferred with demonstrated experience serving as government counsel, regulatory administrator or a government affairs professional. Experience working for or representing interests before the Commonwealth of Virginia preferred.
