(The minimum salary range is $160,000 – $185,000 negotiable and competitive based on experience and qualifications with excellent benefits)

The Administrator is appointed by the Board of Supervisors and is responsible to the Board for the execution of policies it establishes including the County’s Strategic Management Plan. Other duties include handling the daily administrative operations of the County, service and policy improvements, developing an annual budget and managing the Fiscal Year 2018 budget of $196.6 million, and guiding the work of the County’s 700 full time, part-time and seasonal staff.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in business or public administration or a related field is required, with a master’s degree in public or business administration preferred. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible local government experience in management of an organization comparable to James City County is required; Virginia experience is a plus. Experience beyond the minimum stated, in is highly desirable as well as ICMA Credentialed Manager status. Past experience of the individual must show high levels of performance and leadership in areas that include economic development and tourism, finance and budget, growth management, long range and strategic planning, staff development, succession management and maintaining positive lines of communication at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree in public or business administration, local government experience in Virginia, and ICMA Credentialed Manager status.
